Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy
Sometimes healing takes more than words.
Licensed, trauma-informed counseling alongside the quiet presence of horses
What is equine therapy?
Horses are remarkably attuned to emotion and body language. Equine-assisted psychotherapy pairs a licensed mental-health therapist with a horse as co-facilitator. No riding or horse experience needed.
The work happens through doing rather than only talking — leading a horse, grooming, or simply sharing space. These moments bring feelings and patterns to the surface in real time, where client and therapist can notice and explore them together.
Every session is guided by a licensed therapist and grounded in evidence-based approaches — including DBT, CBT, and polyvagal-informed work that supports nervous-system regulation. Red Rock Equine Therapy uses the Arenas for Change (ARCH) SEEN Through Horses modality as a framework for sessions.
Why horses?
-
Presence
Horses live entirely in the present. Spending time beside one naturally slows the body and quiets the mind — a state in which meaningful therapeutic work becomes possible.
-
Honest feedback
As prey animals, horses read posture, breath, and emotion with remarkable accuracy. They respond to what is genuine, offering immediate and unbiased feedback.
-
Trust without judgment
Horses respond to who you are in the moment — not your history or your diagnosis. Earning the trust of a large animal builds a kind of confidence that carries into daily life.
